Day 1: Hanoi to Ta Xua

Kickstart your Northern Vietnam motorbike tour by escaping the city chaos. We hit the road from Hanoi on backroads and light dirt tracks, following the Da River past sprawling rice paddies and into the hills. Lunch is served in Thanh Son town before we cruise through endless tea farms to Phu Yen.

Hanoi to Ta Xua

From here, the real offroad challenge begins — a gritty mountain ascent that’s part thrill, part test of will. The trail stretches up to 18km and offers jaw-dropping views as we ride toward the legendary “Dinosaur Backbone” of Ta Xua.

Perched in the clouds, Ta Xua is a hidden gem for adventure motorbike riders, offering rugged beauty and a raw, untouched atmosphere. If time allows, we’ll venture into remote H’Mong villages on dirt trails, or crack open a cold one and soak up the mountain vibes.

* Summary:

Distance: 210km
Meals: Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation: H’Mong homestay

Day 2: Ta Xua to Ngoc Chien

Rise early for a chance to catch the mystical “sea of clouds” that makes Ta Xua famous. After breakfast, experienced riders can challenge themselves with a ride along the narrow, rocky path to the Dinosaur Backbone peak.
Back on the saddle, we head to Bac Yen, riding along the Da River toward Chen Pass — an epic photo stop sitting 1500m above sea level. This historic pass was once a key battleground during the Indochina War.

Ta Xua to Ngọc Chiến

We push onward through Muong Chum and It Ong, passing through traditional Thai villages surrounded by rice fields and jungle roads. Optional detour: Visit the historic Son La prison — a chilling reminder of colonial struggles.

Our destination, Ngoc Chien, is a highland hideaway known for its terraced fields, ethnic stilt houses, and natural hot springs. Tonight, we reward ourselves with a soak in a steaming mineral spring — a perfect end to a long day in the saddle.

Relaxing in a lovely hot spring

Day 3: Ngoc Chien to Moc Chau

We leave Ngoc Chien around 9 AM, following the river past hydro dams, hill villages, and winding backroads. After a tough dirt section, we stop for coffee in It Ong before taking scenic Route 110 toward Moc Chau.
In the afternoon, we dive into backroads, passing lush tea plantations and stopping at Na Ka Plum Valley. The ride offers plenty of photo ops and authentic encounters with ethnic groups like the H’Mong and Thai. For thrill-seekers, today includes options for offroad motorcycle routes based on weather and group skill.

Moc Chau is a biker’s dream — cool weather, endless hills, dairy farms, blooming flowers, and mountain trails. Get ready to unwind in one of the most photogenic regions of Vietnam.

Day 4: Moc Chau to Hanoi

Our final day begins early to avoid Hanoi’s afternoon traffic. We take National Road 6 toward Mai Chau, then cut onto Road 450 — a quieter scenic route offering jaw-dropping views over Hoa Binh Lake, one of the largest man-made lakes in Vietnam.
From here, we mix dirt tracks with paved roads through rural Vietnam until we break for lunch near Ky Son or Cao Phong. Then, it’s highway all the way back to Hanoi — tired, dusty, and grinning.
