Day 1: Hanoi to Mai Chau
We kick off the tour around 9:00 AM. After about 40 minutes navigating Hanoi’s busy streets, we break free onto Highway No. 8. From here, the traffic eases up, and the countryside starts to unfold. We then roll along scenic backroads through rice fields into Hoa Binh province, where the landscape shifts-mountains rise, the air gets cleaner, and dramatic karst formations start lining the horizon.

After lunch, we’ll hit some challenging offroad sections then cruise along Road 450, a lesser-known stretch that rewards us with a stunning overlook of Hoa Binh Lake-one of Vietnam’s largest man-made lakes.
We spend the night in Mai Chau-a quiet valley where stilt houses of the White Thai people sit among emerald paddy fields. Surrounded by misty green mountains, this place is a breath of fresh air after a full day’s ride. Tonight, we enjoy a warm local dinner, stay in a family-run homestay, and soak in a bit of ethnic Thai culture.

Day 4: Phong Nha to Dong Hoi

After the unforgettable boat trip, we hop back on our bikes to begin today’s journey. Instead of taking the main road, we follow National Road 15—also known as the western branch of the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Once a vital supply route during the Vietnam War, this road continued to serve travelers and transport long after the war, until it was gradually replaced by more accessible and convenient highways. Today, this route is almost forgotten. With very few residents along the way and untouched jungle landscapes, it remains raw and remote—an irresistible lure for adventurers and thrill-seekers alike.

In the late afternoon, we leave Road 15 and switch to Road 9E toward Dong Hoi City, where a charming little beach awaits us.

Distance: 130km

From Dong Hoi, we can either follow National Highway 1A or detour onto National Road 15 — the eastern branch of the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Today’s journey includes visits to two historically significant sites: Hien Luong Bridge and Vinh Moc Tunnels.

Hien Luong Bridge once marked the border between North and South Vietnam during the war — a powerful symbol of division and reconciliation. Vinh Moc Tunnels, on the other hand, are a haunting reminder of the war’s brutality and the resilience of those who lived through it, surviving underground for years.
In the afternoon, we cruise along National Road 49B, hugging the stunning coastline all the way to Hue — the imperial city where we’ll spend the night. Hue is a charming blend of the ancient and the modern, offering travelers a chance to relax or celebrate the journey, depending on the mood.

Day 6: Hue to Hoi An
Today will be a relaxing and easygoing day. After a night of celebration, we can allow ourselves to sleep in a little, with breakfast at 8:00 or 8:30 AM. We’ll depart around 11:00–12:00 AM, following National Highway 49B, and stop for lunch at Lang Co, a beautiful coastal town.
After lunch, we’ll continue our journey to the highlight of the day—the Hai Van Pass, one of the most stunning mountain passes in Vietnam. Beyond its breathtaking scenery, Hai Van Pass is also historically significant, having witnessed intense battles during the Vietnam War. We’ll take a short break at the summit to capture stunning photos of the sea, mountains, and clouds all in one frame.

From Hai Van Pass, we’ll continue our trip through Da Nang and arrive in Hoi An, a charming ancient town where we will spend the night.

In the afternoon, we take on the challenge of conquering the Vi O Lak Pass, a majestic route that connects Quang Ngai and Kon Tum provinces at an altitude of 1,300 meters above sea level. After a stop to admire the views and enjoy a fantastic cup of coffee, we continue along National Highway 24 to Mang Den, our destination for the day.

Mang Den is a small town covering just over 100 square kilometers, yet it boasts breathtaking scenery—pristine forests, lakes, waterfalls, and pine forests—all wrapped in a cool, refreshing climate and a peaceful atmosphere.
