What is traffic like in Vietnam?

You’ve probably seen those viral videos showing “crazy” traffic in Vietnam – especially in big cities like Hanoi or Saigon – and while they’re not completely wrong, it’s not quite as chaotic as it seems.

First, that kind of traffic only happens in major cities. In smaller towns and rural areas (where most of our tour takes place), traffic is far more relaxed and manageable.
Second, what you’re seeing in the cities is more like organized chaos. There aren’t clearly marked lanes, but people generally move at low speeds and pay close attention to one another. It may look messy, but it actually works – and it’s safer than it seems. And It might sound a little crazy, but honestly, weaving your way through Hanoi’s downtown traffic is itself a bucket-list adventure for many foreign travelers.

So don’t stress about riding in Vietnam! On our motorbike tours, we only spend about 45 minutes or 1 hours total riding in or near the city on the first and last days. The rest of the time, we’ll be out exploring peaceful countryside, off-road trails, and quiet backroads.

So relax, hop on the bike, and come discover Vietnam with us!
